They're Incorrigible!

The sequel to one of my favorite children's books is finally out! It's the story of three wolflike children with fantastic names; Alexander, Beowulf, and Cassiopeia, being raised by their delightful governess, Miss Penelope Lumley (think Jane Eyre).

The Art of Sailing...

Putting the finishing touches on our Valentine's Day programming. This year it's a nautical theme with sailors valentines, scrimshaw pendants and love knots (a quick lesson on seamen knot tying with pink rope, of course). I have plenty of little octagon boxes just waiting to be turned into seashell covered valentines!

Balloon Bunny

Rediscovery of a wonderful old children's book, The Great Valentine's Day Balloon Race. The pictures are delightfully done and the story is just too perfect. Adams has written and illustrated two other books about this lovely little rabbit family and I want to crawl into the pages of all of them.

Heading Home...

Looking forward to a trip home for the holidays. Feeling a little nostalgic this evening so I got out some old family photos. Came across these two cute pics from my first trip to Nantucket with my dapper daddy and beautiful momma.

Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands

I'm in aw of these amazing portraits by Boston artist and illustrator, Amanda Laurel Atkins. They're beautifully done and I'm looking forward to showing our visitors the new book she's illustrated, I Love You, Whale!

Santa baby...

Please hurry down the chimney tonight (with one of these). My number 1 must-have gift for Christmas. How cute will this be in my kitchen? I might have to sew some matching placemats.

Goodbyes...

Feeling a little sad about my last week in this amazing building. When I first started working here I made a promise that I'd never forget to look up when entering the rotunda each morning. I'll miss those little AM jolts which made me feel lucky to work in such a beautiful place. Hall of Justice... you will be missed.

Gypsies, tramps and thieves....

We're heading to Hocking Hills for a weekend and while searching for rustic cabins I found this adorable little number. This is what my backyard is missing. A gypsy wagon is a nice little bohemian twist on the traditional guest house.

Murakami @ Versailles!

Our trip to Versailles had an extra twist with Mirakami's sculptures scattered about the palace and gardens. We were the only tourists taking more pictures of his work than the Parisian grandeur. My favorite part? The carpet!

High Society

While traveling we discovered a delightful book shop in the home of a retired couple. The timing couldn't have been more perfect because it began to rain seconds after we entered, allowing for plenty of browsing time.

My selection was, The Late George Apley, a charming novel that's written as a memoir and gives us a slightly voyeuristic (but lovely) glimpse into the lives of a privileged New England family. After finishing, I had a sudden urge to watch Philadelphia Story and would walk around the house proclaiming, "my she was yar" in my best Katherine Hepburn accent.
