Twinsies!

Eloise has a doppelganger at the Taft Museum of Art's gift shop. Now yes, I understand that she's a dog and this is supposedly an owl. However it didn't stop me from screeching "Ellie!" like some lunatic as I walked into the shop. They both have Albert Einstein's hair.

Yarn Bombers Unite

The "big bomb" has finally occurred for the Bombshells of Cincinnati, covering Central Parkway with bright, colorful and cozy patterns for all to see. It was a long, fun night filled with laughter, ladders, wigs, yarn and yummy pizza.

Fly Swatter Art

We've given up paintbrushes once again today and this time we've replaced them with fly swatters. The splatter was out of control (in a good way). Everyone ended up covered in paint and there was a nonstop giggle-fest from all our little artists. Highlight of the morning was Maya yelling "splat" every time she put her swatter down.

Healthy Art

We had some leftover broccoli from a previous art program (strange I know) so I put it to good use with our little ones and learned something new. Broccoli makes an amazing paint brush!

Chemical Birthdays

Scottie had a science themed birthday. Yes, he's 32 going on 6. So... I just had to make some atom cupcakes to go along with the fantastic vintage chemistry set I got him. The set is from the 1950's and comes with over 50 chemicals in the original glass bottles, a molecule model, plus loads of beakers and science things I don't understand (luckily he does). Fingers crossed that our house is explosion-free for the next few weeks!

Penguin Kisses

Summer isn't complete without a visit to the Edward Gorey House in Yarmouth Port. We picked a cloudy day to forgo the beach for Gorey and followed it up with some antiquing and seafood stops. His back yard contained a cat grave yard, plus a hand painted whale and penguin sculpture.

Afterwards, while hunting at a flea market we came across an antique boston terrier door stop which was oh so fun to take on the plane back home... "Ma'am, is there a large metal dog in your bag?" He did eventually survive the trip (after some sweet talking with airport officials) and is now holding the door to our guest room. On a side note, we've named him Edward.

Move Your Feet!

 

 I did a program for the Contemporary Art Center inspired by Keith Haring's dancing figures. Preschoolers struck some fantastic dance poses while we did a quick trace. After they finished painting their figures we painted our feet and busted a move on a giant tarp! The kids loved the squishy paint between their toes and I loved watching them break it down to my one of a kind dance mix.

 This little guy wanted to have his figure jumping in the air!

Glitter, Mariah Carey Style

We've got a group of girls who love some good old fashion glitz and sparkle. So... I pulled out everything pink, feathered, shiny and fabulous which usually makes me want to puke. The result? A collection of diva puppets which turned out cute but a tad scandalous (the one on the left is Aretha Franklin in a bikini).

Blushing Bride

My wonderful childhood friend got married this summer and the pictures are in! She looks absolutely lovely! It was one of the sweetest ceremonies I've seen and included lots of love, laughs and a few smart aleck remarks (all in about 5 minutes).

Pancake People

We had some fun at Play Art today with yummy breakfast themed stories and artwork. Grace (one of my favorite little ones) made this adorable pancake girl. It was so pretty she didn't want to eat it.

Dapper Daddy

So happy to celebrate today with a fantastic father. He taught me everything I need to know about sailing, good beer, savvy lawn mowing techniques, and the correct way to pleat a pant. My hero.

Monster Mash

The kids are obsessed with monsters these days. We created all kinds of crazy creatures with our white boards. My favorite was a froggie-storm monster.

Bump it!

Scott and I did some bumper boating with his niece to beat the heat this weekend. Some of those kids were ruthless so you had to go in with a game plan. The kamikaze approach worked well (spinning in a circle while holding down the water torpedo trigger). A girl's gotta have a plan.

Freeze pops

Fun birthday gift for Scott's mom. It freezes Popsicles in 7 minutes flat! Not bad. Perfect for someone who likes fancy kitchen gadgets. Can't wait to make some mimosa pops soon.
