There isn't a nicer place to be in all of America than a Chatham Band Concert on Friday night. It's a kind of Leave it to Beaver perfect moment that is almost surreal. I've been coming for 28 years (my first concert was spent inside mom's womb -ew). And I still sing my heart out to every show tune, my mouth full of candy, balloon and glow stick tied to each wrist. All captured under trees and stars and bandstand lights, surrounded with white picket fences and children who know that the hokey pokey is what it's all about.

There's no place like home...

Tennesse Williams meets Popeyes Chicken
The show: Blanche Survives Katrina in a FEMA Trailer Named Desire. The verdict: Love, love, loved it!The name pretty much sums it up. This was FANTASTIC. We planned on hitting P-Town for a more traditional drag show but couldn't pass this up once we heard the title. It was heartfelt, thoughtful and side-splitting. I also love that I used the word "traditional" when describing a type of drag show.

Edward Gorey House +1 Giant Cat
While visiting my family in Cape Cod I stopped by the Edward Gorey House in Yarmouthport and had a wonderful time. For such a small house they really have an extensive amount of books, clothing, sketches and a rather hefty cat. What I enjoyed the most were the lovely little items he collected; matches, oodles of stones, glass bottles, wind up toys, even a months worth of receipts from his local restaurant. Gorey definitely appreciated the beautiful silhouettes found in everyday objects and you could really see how he turned these shapes into the intricate drawing of his little creatures.*Giant Cat Pics soon to follow!

Problem: I don't want to leave my hotel
My quick, weekend trip to Chicago had a nice surprise when I found out our hotel was actually fun! We were able to play kitschy board games by the pool (I am quite good at Battleship), and I'm not 100% sure but I think my bed was made of clouds. Their cute rooms and mini cafe were the perfect spots to relax and refuel. I highly recommend it!

Even the hallways are pretty!

Gocco a go-go

The exciting world of Gocco has begun! My "new" printer is cheap (for the most part), easy to use, and super cute. How someone could discontinue these little guys (twice) is beyond me. I'll have to admit I'm having a little too much fun. The printer now has a name, Bert, and he's kind of fickle. Maybe it's my imagination but he seems to work better when I play music, Doris Day in particular.

Judging A Book By Its Cover
I am totally smitten with this cover for Jane Austen's Persuasion. It's always been one of my favorite books and this picture makes it even lovelier. I'm guilty of buying a new copy just for the prettier cover. No judging please! In my defense, the older book had water damage after a trip to the ocean. Apparently chair surfing while reading has its downsides.Pretty Purchases
I found a set of dainty little trays with the Ethan Allen Flintlock Pistol on them at my favorite antique shop. It was quite a steal at only $6 for the whole set. They've been the perfect spot for jewelry, bobby pins and spare change to accumulate.
These tiny bowls from The Clay Element Studio just melt my heart. I want to pet them they're so pretty. Unfortunately so does my cat Nico. She patrols them nightly plotting their destruction.Sunday, March 8, 2009

Another Day at the Office...
It's always necessary to interrupt the exciting world of spreadsheets, especially when it involves one of these. Our director called us down from our pods to check out a Magnetscope! Its inventor had a little private viewing for a few museum employees today and it was definitely a hit. Operation 'Distract Elizabeth From Excel Budgeting' has been extremely successful.

I love this close up shot of the ferrofluid reacting to the magnets.
